The game started with a tetchy mood between the teams and the referee. Even the water carrier caught the sharp edge of the referees tongue. The tension continued until Newmarket had a man given a 10 minute rest in the sin bin. Cambourne were unable to make the most of the advantage and it was Newmarket who opened the scoring whilst a man down. Lisher (on loan) converted the try to knock 2 points off his points tally for the season!
In a close fight, both teams attacked and defended ferociously. It was when the Exiles put together some solid rugby with simple moves shipping the ball wide that the points started to come. Johnson and Wallis added to their try counts, but Dreuitt had once again left his kicking boots at home! A solid play deep in the second half saw Bob Conway evading the referee only to be narrowly denied his first try by a hard Newmarket defense. Wallis closed out the match with his second try of the day to push the score beyond the reach of Newmarket. Tries : Andrade, Wallis 2 Write-up - Neil Ingham Photos - Neil Ingham |
