Boosted by their win last weekend, Cambourne started todays match with a spring in their step. For much of the first half, Cambourne were camped deep in St Neots territory. Penetrating runs from Harlow, Dreuitt, Grain and Macknish and dogged work from the forwards kept the pressure on St Neots. Cambourne crossed the line once but the ball was held up by a determined defence from the visitors. Against the run of play, Cambourne finished the half lagging by 2 converted tries after breakouts by St Neots produced scores wide out on the right right wing.
St Neots stepped up their game in the second half and kept Cambourne pinned back in defence for much of the period. But Cambourne kept their composure well and managed a fight back in the last quarter. After a period of driving by the forwards, the ball fell to Macey whose blistering pace sent him through the blind side defence to score in exuberant fashion. Later, a clean break from Dreuitt deep inside his own half saw the full-back cover a good 70 yards to outpace the defence and score. Dreuitts conversions pushed Cambourne to within striking distance of the win. St Neots piled on the pressure again and Cambounre played some exciting moves to try to break out of defence to grab the win. But it was not to be and St Neots returned west along the A428 victorious. Tries : Macey, Dreuitt Conversions : Dreuitt 2 Write-up - Neil Ingham Photos - Neil Ingham |
